ROSOBORONEXPORT WAS PARTICIPATING IN EVENTS DEVOTED TO THE 65TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE RUSSIAN MILITARY AND TECHNICAL COOPERATION SYSTEM

JSC Rosoboronexport (part of the Rostec State Corporation) has taken part in the gala reception for ambassadors and defence attaches of foreign states devoted to the 65th anniversary since the creation of the Russian Federation’s system of military and technical cooperation with foreign countries.

The event, organized by the Federal Service on Military and Technical Cooperation (FSMTC) was held on May 15, 2018 at the ‘President Hotel’ in Moscow. The gala reception was also attended by representatives of the federal executive power bodies of the Russian Federation and the Rostec State Corporation.

“Rosoboronexport acts as a successor of very good traditions and a great experience of our country’s armaments cooperation with foreign countries. The company is preserving those excellent connections, which have been developed over the decades, and is constantly expanding the geography of its activities. Russia’s partners know that the sophisticated Russian weapons allow them to protect their national sovereignty in a reliable manner. Meanwhile there are more than one million people working at the enterprises of the Russian defence-industrial complex implementing over 1000 current contracts between Rosoboronexport and foreign customers from above 70 states, which order the Russian military equipment and materiel,” said Alexander Mikheev, Rosoboronexport’s Director-General.

As it is reputed to be, the originator of the Soviet (Russian) system of military and technical cooperation with foreign states was the Main Engineering Directorate, established in 1953 within the Ministry of Domestic and Foreign Trade in line with the decision of the USSR’s Council of Ministers. Since then the system has been constantly under development and upgrade, and it received its present-day shape in the early 21st century.

In 2000, as part of the reform, the Committee on Military and Technical Cooperation (CMTC) of the Russian Federation was created, which was later on succeeded by the FSMTC. Based on the two market intermediaries of that time (federal state unitary enterprises ‘State Company Rosvooruzhenie’ and ‘Promexport’), a unified special exporter – Rosoboronexport - was created.

Presently, the system of Russia’s military and technical cooperation with foreign states is a well functioning mechanism, which takes account of numerous aspects and features of the external trade activities. All the components of the system, including Rosoboronexport, are working in unison to the greatest extent, and the guarantor of its fail-safe operation is the President of the Russian Federation.

“No matter how well established the system is, its work won’t be optimal without close coordination directly with the customers ordering military equipment and materiel. In 2017 Rosoboronexport received more than 400 foreign delegations in Russia from 70 countries throughout the world. And for this I would like to express appreciation to the diplomats of our partner nations. Thanks to their everyday patient work Rosoboronexport gets a full understanding with our foreign colleagues,” said Alexander Mikheev in his address to the guests of the gala reception.

Within the festive events, Rosoboronexport will also take part in a gala night devoted to the 65thanniversary since the creation of the Russian Federation’s system of military and technical cooperation with foreign countries. This will be held in the Central Academic Theater of the Russian Armed Forces for the invited veterans of USSR’s and Russia’s military and technical cooperation.

“Rosoboronexport is actively supporting the veterans’ movement. Without these people and their long service Russia wouldn’t have been able to keep the leading positions in the world market of weapons. In its work for the interests of Russia, Rosoboronexport is using the connections and experience, which had been developed for decades by our veterans,” concluded Alexander Mikheev.
